Proofreading for self-publishing

The Guardian had an interesting article today about self-publishing:

One of the BTL commentators made this point:

'To me, the biggest gap in self-publishing is the editing. This isn't just proofreading - a good editor will work with the author to shape the manuscript into something of high value. There are loads of experienced freelance book editors, so I would encourage authors to invest a bit of money into editing, to make sure their book is as good as it can be before it is released.'
